Scoring
2009-10 Cheer Alliance Scoring System
*NEW* In 2009-10 Cheer Alliance will use a new three score sheet adjudication system. Two adjudicators will evaluate each category, and also provide an overall impression score for the entire routine.
Building Skills- Stunts, Pyramids, Tosses
Jumps &Tumbling - Running Tumbling, Standing Tumbling, Jumps
Choreography - Dance/Motions, Creativity & Design, Formations/Transitions
Category Weights:
Scores are weighted approximately as follows, exact totals vary slightly:
AS Building Skills - 35%
AS Jumps & Tumbling - 35%
AS Choreography - 30%
School Building Skills - 40%
School Jumps & Tumbling - 25%
School Choreography - 35%
The value of each scoresheet is different to reflect these weights. The totals of each sheet are added together to achieve a final score. Please note that these numbers are to give you a general idea of the weighting, precise % vary slightly when mathematically equated.
Sample Score Tabulation:
IE: AS Building Skills 60/75 62/75
AS Jumps/Tumbling 50/65 52/65
AS Choreography 52/60 51/60
Total Score =60 + 50+ 52=162 (Panel A) 62+52+51=165 (Panel B)
Deductions= 6
Final Score = 162(Panel A) +165 (Panel B) - 6(Deductions) =321
Coaches will receive a Tabulation Sheet showing these calculations along with their score sheets. Deductions will be taken off the Total Score to reach the Final Score.
Scoring Philosophy:
With the increasing complexity of routines, category adjudication allows judges to primarly focus on the precise skills they are adjudicating, allowing for more precise analysis and commentary and reducing the number of missed skills.
As cheerleading rapidly grows in Canada, we strongly feel that it is our job to provide coaches with critical feedback that will help them to be both safe and successful within Canada and on the international stage.
The Skill Ratio Grid featured in the upper right corner of the skill categories allows coaches to understand the meaning behind the allotted scores. Adjudicators are asked to indicate the ratio of the team performing the skills at each level. Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Elite skills are defined for each level in the 2009-10 Judging Continuum.
